Community of Hope Health Clinic is modeled after the
“Volunteers in Medicine Clinic”, in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Since 1993, the original VIM Clinic has grown to serve more than 30,000
patients each year and has been used as a model for fifty other VIM clinics
now operating across the country.
Community of Hope Health Clinic is the second Alabama–based health
clinic formally affiliated with the Volunteers in Medicine Institute. (The
first VIM clinic in Alabama was the MOM Clinic located in Montgomery, AL.)
Like the
original Hilton Head Clinic other VIMI clinics operate under the
“Culture of Caring” (www.vimi.org).
It is rooted in an ethical standard that how people are treated during a
visit to the clinic is as important as the medical care they receive.
This culture recognizes the strengths of those in need and respects their
dignity.
